Friday Sept 29

Peter Lorre, mentioned in Chapter 10

Well, we read to the end of Chapter 10 today- all the way to page 99! Wooo!

We also got up to Question 8 assigned for homework.

We also worked together on getting the Theme Study done, too. I posted the .pdf file of that on the right-hand side of the page, under the Catcher Helpful Links title.

I also posted a walking tour of New York in the same set of links, too. Oh! Oooh! I also wanted to post the link for The 39 Steps here as well! What. A. Movie!

Gary Cooper, also mentioned in Chapter 10

Thursday Sept 28

Well, it's finally a bit chillier of a day than the last few ... I mean, I don't want to wish away summer, but 40 degrees in September was a wee excessive.

I'm starting the discussion with my fellow teachers about the CA for this course and I'm pretty stoked to more or less let you know that most of the teachers teaching 2D English want to finish the major project of this course before Christmas. That is really good news.

We read the text today to the end of Chapter 8, page 76. Holden has left the building!

We also got the first six questions from the list of questions on the novel for homework for tomorrow.

Wed Sept 27

We had a Mass Schedule today - it was a fairly good day for this period.

We got to the end of Chapter 6 read today. I was stoked to get this read. We'll keep going tomorrow.

I also set the due date for Part One of Citr as Oct 4

Tues Sept 26

The Google Car in the reflection of the MOMA!

So ... we did a fair amount of reading of the novel done today. We got to the end of Chapter 3.

I also collected the webquest on the novel, too. Quite a good day. I also assigned 2 and 3 from the list of questions for homework.

I also did a bit of poking around in New York City on Google Street view; the projector is really letting me down and I can't show much on the big screen. We'll have to fix that for tomorrow.

Friday Sept 22

Today we ended one unit and started the next. I did start off by pointing out that the Webquest for Citr was due on Tuesday.

I got back the tests and the presentation notes and marks to the students today.

We chatted briefly about the results and I took questions and we got a chance to discuss the results.

After that, we officially started the next unit by reading from the text to page 15ish.

We also got the first question for homework, too.

Tues Sept 19

Right on. We keep moving forward.

Today is getting really really close to the end of the Stories Unit in this class. We did a few more of the Task Two presentations and did some work on the essay together.

I also reminded students that there is a webquest on the next unit due soon as well.

Then we did a brief poking around on Twitter for Catcher in the Rye, too. #catcherintherye

Wednesday Sept 13

Ah, Wednesday ... a day in the middle of the week. We did our last story for this Story Piece unit today ... the classic "A Tell Tale Heart" by Edgar Allen Poe. A. Classic.

We also took up the questions on the previous story and had a bit of fun while doing that.

I reminded students of their presentations and what the quiz on Friday would look like, too.

We also saw this video ....

Also a classic....

Tuesday Sept 12

Well, this was a nice and straightforward class today. We took up the homework on the story "The Veldt" and went on to read "Just Lather, That's All."

Questions were on the sheet this time.

After that, I did do a brief set of tips for the Task Two Presentation. I also suggested students take a peek at the essay topic that they already have in their Short Story Unit Outline.

Well, today ... today was a pretty good day. We took up the homework for the previous story and got to read "Pride of Wingham Ontario" Alice Munro's "Boys and Girls" today.

Please have a safe weekend and we'll see you on Monday!

Live long and prosper ... and we'll see you on Monday!

Thursday Sept 7

Today was a nice straight forward day.

We took up the homework on the story from yesterday and we talked about the terms, too.

We did get the short story Lamb to the Slaughter by Ronald Dahl today. We'll take a peek at the work and terms tomorrow, too.

We also did sign up for the articles and dates for a good number of students today, too.

Keep going - well begun is half done!

A pic of today

Wed Sept 6

On to the second day of class.

This was a day where I just had to shake my head and laugh. Ah well, I still blame the photocopier for what happened with the stories we used today.

In any case, we read "The Flying Machine" by Ray Bradbury today in class.

We then saw the links for Task 2 and saw some really really bad powerpoint decks.

Ok, on to tomorrow!

Tuesday Sept 5

Man, this post is late.

We started the course - got the various sheets handed out and talked about this blog and the first unit.

Oh and the "Getting to know you" forms, too.
